I thought the Japanese had samurai movies instead of westerns.
It looks like they made a few westerns as well.
This one was "Drifting Detective: Tragedy in the Red Valley" starring Sonny Chiba.
Excellent direction by Kinji Fukasaku (who would have his biggest hit 40 years later with "Battle Royale").
Usual crappy plot about evil man (and his gang of ruffians) trying to take over someone's ranch (in this case, a dairy farm). But then along comes a stranger who saves the day only to ride off into the sunset after the ranch is saved leaving behind all the female cast members who are all crazy about him.
