Movie #1593: Akasen Chitai (1956, Kenji Mizoguchi)

The story of a group of prostitutes as the Japanese legislature contemplates a law making prostitution illegal.
All the stories are believable and no stance is taken one way or the other on the legalization issue. All points of view are examined by using the women's background stories rather than by preaching.

Song #37,021: I Want To Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart (1952, Alice Babs)

Today's find over at eMusic is Alice Babs.
Real name: Hildur Nilsson
Hometown: Kalmar Sweden
What I found on eMusic was "I Want To Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart" which is a fine example of Swedish country&western. On YouTube we find that Hildur could also rock'n'roll with her "St Louis Blues Twist". Amazingly, Hildur later went on to sing for Duke Ellington! A real triple threat (country, rock and jazz).
